Emerging from Vilnius, Lithuania, Sraigės efektas are a European band you should probably get to know. Boasting a unique and charming style, the group manage to place itself at the intersection of alt-rock and new wave, even resembling the iciness and haunting tones of the typical Eastern European darkwave (think Molchat Doma, Motorama). All of that puts Sraigės efektas right in our musical preferences, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
Active for a whopping four decades, the group can boast some fantastic achievements, including various awards and soundtrack works. Now, they are back with their latest album, ‘Klaidosklaida’ a record that sounds extremely contemporary while being anchored in tradition. It signals how creatively proficient Sraigės efektas are, even to this day.
Over eight tracks, the listeners get taken on a journey into shoegaze-flavoured guitar work, and a cluster of organic soundscapes that well supports the group’s ethereal vocals, often quite lo-fi and intimate. Describing the lyricism behind it, Sraigės efektas explains: “It is about human reconciliation with the diversity of the world and the search for one’s place in society.”
