‘Rosewater’ was released over a year ago at this point – yet it did not fail in capturing our full attention. An intense, slow-burn ethereal piece, the track is part cinematic and part trip-hop, eventually crowned by SZÁRA’s evocative, cathartic vocals. It’s rather hard to pinpoint clear influences behind ‘Rosewater’ as the track is incredibly eclectic. It all makes sense when taking into account the diverse, multi-cultural identity behind its creator.
Originally from Bosnia, SZÁRA emigrated to the US during the Balkan war, being subsequently raised between North and South America. Such a rich blend of personal roots makes for artistry that’s expansive and wide, appealing to a large number of listeners – yet, sounding quirky and unique.
Almost a soundtrack-driven effort, ‘Rosewater’ is a tremendous entry point to SZÁRA’s majestic and luscious musical universe. Crystallized into spacious vocals, leftfield production and eerie, melancholic melodies, the song is a true masterpiece.
