Released towards the end of last year (apologies for the delay), ‘Reckless Hallows‘ is the debut eponymous album from an Austin-based four-piece of the same name.
Gritty, grungy, and ruggedly appealing, the thirteen-track offering is a raw and unfiltered look into the band’s core sound – a sound characterised by driving drums, fuzzy riffs, groovy basslines, and the effortlessly cool vocals of Ray Lara.
Track seven on the record is a tune called ‘QR’, or Quintessential Resignation, which I’ve been particularly drawn to. Fusing the gritty essence of 90s alt-rock with a contemporary indie sensibility, it’s a song that captures the emotional chaos of unreciprocated love. Evoking the nostalgia of films like Sixteen Candles or Say Anything, ‘QR’ is a heartfelt and masterful exploration of love lost.
Architecturally influenced by The Cure, The Smiths, and Soundgarden, Reckless Hallows delivers an album filled with both nostalgia and innovation. Honouring their roots and inspirations while pushing boundaries at the same time, they’re an outfit that refuses to be pigeonholed – and you know that’s what we love here at Mesmerized! We want more! We want more!
