We recently fell in love with Moonroof‘s brand new single ‘Bad For Me’, labelling it “a fierce, catchy slice of indie rock with exquisitely pop lyricism”. Based in Philadelphia, the indie-pop/rock act has been in the game since 2018, and with each new release, their artistic evolution becomes even more evident.
Today, we’re going back to March of this year and Moonroof’s tune ‘Bottle It Up’. Hugely influenced by The Killers and The 1975, the track showcases the band’s love for 2000s and early 2010s indie-pop. “For this song, we wanted to make it sound like if The Killers wrote ‘Sex’ by The 1975,” admit the act. Mission accomplished as far as I’m concerned!
Deeply infectious and expertly assembled, ‘Bottle It Up’ is a banging anthem that sticks in your head after just one or two listens. Dave Kim puts on a stellar vocal performance, and the band’s tight instrumentation makes it an instant indie classic.
Lyrically, the tune focuses on being unafraid to show one’s true emotions, especially us males. The constant need to “act tough” can have truly damaging effects, and Moonroof’s message is a refreshing call for vulnerability and emotional honesty.
