There’s a great deal of reflection and philosophy behind ‘session_operators’, perhaps unsurprisingly, given that it all stems from the creative mind of Brooklyn-based musician Mitchell Leonard. Boasting a keen interest in live electronic performances and visual art, the talented composer wraps ‘session_operators’ in a cathartic, minimal sonic livery, leaving ample space for the listeners to draw their own conclusions.
Built on stunning, expansive vocoder-treated vocals, the record is almost hypnotising in its current form, yet still moving with harmonic purpose, never leaving anything to chance. Treating the piece as a sensory experience, Leonard aims to offer “emotional and sensory landscapes, shaping the listeners’ experience in real-time”. That’s the main concept behind ‘session_operators’, with the artist acting as a cosmic guide to the aforementioned experience.
The release comes with a compelling and equally striking music video, courtesy of animator and director Jared D. Weiss. Featuring nostalgic, tech-oriented animations, the visuals perfectly fit the unique character behind the record, once again showcasing Mitchell Leonard as a one-of-a-kind outfit in the music industry.
