Emerging from Wales, Lunar Bird are possibly your new dream-pop obsession. Championed by the likes of BBC Introducing, the Cardiff-based outfit has been showcasing their luscious and quirky aesthetic for the last few years, with their previous EP proudly launching them at the forefront of the British scene. Earlier this summer, the group followed up with ‘Venilia’, a charming single that greatly pushes the band’s artistic envelope, both in terms of sound and inspired lyricism.
It is such a wonderful record. Why, you ask? Perhaps it is the kaleidoscopic, dreamy production, drenched in retro and psych influences. Perhaps it is the heavenly, ethereal vocals blessing the track with honey-like melodies and a certain shoegaze attitude.
What matters though, is the disrupting force ‘Venilia’ carries within itself, a strong original character that makes the Lunar Bird one of the most intriguing offerings of the year.
