Championing an exciting multi-genre aesthetic, Lovexlies erupted on the music scene earlier this summer, boasting strong lyricism and a motivation to leave a mark. Well, he succeeded! We wrote about the American talent’s latest release ‘Lover Beware already, but we’d also like to focus on Lovexlies debut effort. You see, if the project’s second single was a delicious pop-rock gem, its precursor ‘Blackout’ focused on a darker aesthetic, exploring trap and hip-hop while showcasing its author’s malleable and dynamic flow.
Is there anything Lovexlies cannot do? What can we expect next? One thing is sure: he has clear ideas about his lyricism, exploring the painful experience of a break-up in all its shades. In particular, ‘Blackout’ shines a light on being ‘love drunk’: being so in love with a person that you cannot see his/her nature clearly.
Hailing from Virginia Beach, Josh Golden is certainly up to something. Introduced by a haunting, hollow melodic riff, ‘Blackout’ jumps straight into business, setting Golden’s gritty, expressive rapping against a bouncy, fast-paced backdrop, made of classic trap beats. It is obvious at this point that Lovexlies possesses a natural gift for inspired songwriting. By opening his heart to pen and paper, he is able to deliver musical numbers that are easily relatable, creating an instant connection with the listener.
What can we expect next? Only time will tell. In the meantime, listen to Lovexlies on Spotify:
