Discover John C Buttigieg’s Blissful Neoclassical Universe

We have written about John C Buttigieg in the past, gloriously opening with “If you are looking for cathartic, meditative music, you just found it”. Such a statement continues to ring true, especially when taking into account the rising stature of the English pianist, now finding a well-deserved place in the global classical landscape. Buttigieg’s M.O. is very clear, with the Shepperton-based creative taking pride in writing evocative, poignant solo piano compositions, often truly cinematic and dreamy.

‘Perspectives – Solo Piano’ is the perfect evidence of that. Originally released in 2023, the record is worth scavenging once again, truly absorbing its buoyant, whimsical character. The listening experience is nuanced and intense, in a positive way. For us, John’s music often results in highly cathartic moments; nuggets of nostalgia and limitless memories. That’s an incredible power if you really think about it: Buttigieg is truly able to shake us to our core, simply by performing art.

Now being recognized as a notable name in the field, the British–Maltese musician has been championed by the likes of BBC and ITV, delivering his neoclassical magic to the whole nation. Speaking about his work, Buttigieg explains: “It mirrors filmic narrative, intense and melancholy, with subtle glimpses of joy and optimism.”
