Discover Joel Rivendell’s Laid-back Dedication to ‘Melbourne’

Jeremy Bregman

In 2016, Melbourne-based singer/songwriter and performer Joel Rivendell released a love song to his hometown. In ‘Melbourne’, you’ll find a funky, jazzy, and hopeful little tune with one of the silkiest and most catchy guitar riffs you’ve ever heard. And is that a jazz flute? I believe it is! What a chilled-out and laid-back track! It’s short too – and stands at just two minutes and forty-five seconds. Don’t let that fool you though – it packs a serious punch in its brief time.

Lyrically, Rivendell says that ‘Melbourne’ is a “big up for this great city”. It also dwells on nostalgia and sentiment, with themes of hope for the city and an admittedly somewhat irrational wish for it to never change.

Rivendell has been playing and performing music for over thirty years, but only recently started releasing his own on streaming services. This has seen him establish a loyal and dedicated fanbase in a pretty short period of time. It’s easy to see the draw and attraction of Rivendell’s music. He wears his heart on his sleeve 100% of the time, and he’s finally beginning to get the recognition he so richly deserves!

Serious tune alert! Enjoy ‘Melbourne’ on Spotify now:
