It is rather hard to describe ‘KONSEPTUALISERA SAMANHALD HVØRSÍNAMILLUM’ (CONSEPTUALIZED UNITY)’ on a sonic level. No obvious references are in sight; instead, the record jumps straight into highly authentic and unique territories, drawing from hip-hop, leftfield electronica and edgy rap stylings. Incorporating field recordings of natural landscapes and sparse, icy synthesiser stabs, the track completely stole our hearts, and frankly, it’s just impossible to remain neutral about it.
Such charisma and cathartic force are very evident in the chaotic and intense enunciation of the lyrics, which – although in Faroese – carry a meaningful and crucial message of personal struggles and societal conflict. AGGRASOPPAR are the creative heroes behind such goodness. Defining themselves as an ‘experimental rap-punk outfit’, the group manage to deliver material that’s hard-hitting and instantly hypnotising.
Delving into the inspiration behind the record, AGGRASOPPAR explain: “Existential crisis connected with lunch, grieving your birth, contextualising romanticism with the selfishness of somewhat normal people and their lack of empathy”. Look out for the project’s upcoming EP ‘MIDNÁTTARSANG (MIDNIGHTSONG)’, expected in 2024.
