We must apologise for being a tad late to the game when it comes to Lisbon-based singer/songwriter and MC Child of SP. Please forgive us! Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Child of SP is still in the early stages of his musical career, but ‘Issues’, a tune he released in February, has captured our and the world’s attention.
An emotive hip-hop/soul track, ‘Issues’ explores the cultural divide at the heart of the artist’s work. Through vulnerable vocals, R&B-style harmonies, and spaced-out drums, Child of SP concocts a laidback and slightly dark piece of music that perfectly captures his artistic vision and emotional depth.
Penned as a retrospective on his relationship, after moving from Brazil to Europe, ‘Issues’ delves into how he and his partner navigated their growing distance with mutual understanding and collaboration. Harbouring no animosity or resentment, the song sends out a powerful message – “we have issues, but we can work it out”.
