The keen reader will remember Betty Moon from a recent article we did about her and ‘My Only One’, a wonderful record we described as “a brilliantly eclectic, bold, and powerful track”. For the uninitiated, Betty Moon is an absolute songwriting powerhouse, with a long career spent in the industry. Based in Los Angeles, California, she’s been featured in some of the biggest music publications, with her music appearing multiple times on national television. Naturally, she found the pandemic era quite productive, in terms of music-making. Spending long days buried in her studio, she’s now sitting on a wealth of new songs that are just waiting to be released.
While we are waiting, Moon seeks to stimulate our memory of her – not that she needed to, we wouldn’t forget anyway. Graciously, the American talent delivers a charming and highly personal rendition of Royal Blood’s smash hit ‘Boilermaker’ – also contained in her latest cover album ‘UNDERCOVER’.
In musical terms, Moon keeps the track very close to the original, managing to insert her luscious and haunting personality into a song that fits her character very well. Her vocals add a touch of freshness to it, scrambling the sonic references towards harder territories. In fact, we’d be curious to see Betty as the frontwoman of a hard rock outfit. We think it would work.
For now though, enjoy ‘Boilermaker’ and stay tuned for Moon’s next original release!
