A rather refined and elegant single, ‘Water’ sees London-based songster Diego Philips engaging in warm, relatable songwriting, built over the most cathartic instrumental. Perfectly fitting Philips’ malleable and vibrant vocal tone, ‘Water’ develops over a stream of textures and keys, creating a slow-moving soundscape which wraps the listeners into emotional turmoil – yet with hope and a possible resolution.
Originally from Belgium, Diego anticipates his upcoming EP, ‘I Want to Laugh Until I Cry’, and if the current single is anything to go by, we are in for a blissfully good record. What we most appreciate in ‘Water’ is the use of a spacious, effect-packed viola (or a similar type of string), adding elegance and charisma to an already wonderful offering.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Water’, Philip explains: “It offers a hypnagogic retelling of a dream by the sea. The track gradually expands its soundscape with deep acoustic strings, enveloping listeners in a soothing, immersive experience.”
