The debut album from Scottish artist DEWAR is so exceptional that some have said it could easily feel at home at the end of an artist’s career, let alone at the very beginning. Simply titled ‘Rudiment’, the eleven-track record perfectly showcases Kirsty Dewar’s unique and uplifting approach to making music. Described as an “undeniable attention grabber,” the album was assembled by legendary producer Gareth Young who’s worked with the likes of Sam Ryder, The Sugababes, Dannii Minogue, and Ronan Keating.
‘Alone Again’ gets proceedings underway in a dreamy and laidback fashion, as we are introduced to DEWAR’s silky and gorgeous vocals. ‘Don’t Waste My Time’ then follows, and now we’re thrown into a bold and rocky little number. You’d be forgiven for thinking that there’s a guest vocalist involved, but I assure you there’s not, that’s just the versatility of this gifted musician.
‘The Show is Never Over’ has a funky, almost disco-inspired vibe, embodying Kirsty’s spirit of putting on a show. It’s lively, bright, and seriously catchy! The album’s lead single ‘Influence’ then steps up to the plate, and it’s now clear why DEWAR’s sound is capturing the imagination of so many. ‘Rudiment’ truly is an unbelievable debut record, and I can’t wait to hear more from DEWAR soon!
