Deuter Returns with New Age Masterpiece ‘Mångata’

The moniker Deuter might now mean much to the reader right now, but chances are they have heard some of his music already. Ever explored any relax/chill-themed playlists? Deuter’s new-age artistic output has been the reference for decades. Boasting millions and millions of streams on Spotify alone, the German-born, US-based composer has always escaped conventional formulas and Western convention, instead finding refuge in Eastern instrumentation and an array of soundscapes and blissful tones.

‘Mångata’ is further evidence of that; Deuter’s latest effort, the album sees the talented creative delve into a plethora of flutes and eclectic instruments, the likes of recorder, koto, sitar, Tibetan singing bowls, santoor, and bouzouk, among others. The soundscape layer is always present, making for a listening experience that’s soothing, hypnotising and deeply escapism-driven.

Perhaps there’s a veiled connection to nature, and its healing powers, as Deuter himself explains: “The album’s title, Mångata, refers to the Swedish word for “moon path,” describing the reflection of the moon’s light on water. This captures the contemplative and serene nature of the album, evoking feelings of tranquillity, connection to nature, and the mysteries of the cosmos.”
