A quirky and unique record, ‘Muay Thai’ is a gritty, punchy and fierce journey into Dennul’s artistic universe, a place made up of dubstep-flavoured electronica with a healthy dose of distortion and dystopian character. Based in Miami, the talented producer boasts a highly charming style, based on a constant flow of tension and release. Like a cocaine-powered night out, ‘Muay Thai’ hits you thick and fast, leaving you confused but also pumped and wide awake.
Taking notice of the record’s eclecticism, won’t be a surprise to discover that Dennul shares a wholesome past as a punk rocker, shining as a bassist and singer for a number of bands in the Miami scene. Perhaps that’s where his love for distortion and fuzziness comes from, an element that we find in his music even today.
Delving on the inspiration behind ‘Muay Thai’, Dennul explains: “I had the freedom to just be myself like I was in my punk band. Before the first drop, there is this section that if you really pay attention, sounds like you’re choosing your fighter in the character menu in a fight videogame.”
