Delve into We Are Space Horses’ Psychedelic Eclecticism

There’s a strange sense of eclecticism in ‘Apologia’. A variety of themes and influences which make the listening experience very enjoyable and unexpected. From the grunge and stoner-flavoured ‘Haunt’, to the more spacious and mellow ‘To Let Go…Absolutely’: the whole record possesses such a strong dualism, going back and forth between heavy distortions and mellow tones. Episodes like ‘Stale Skies’ really supercharge the psychedelic component of it all (here sounding close to Mars Volta).

Track two, ‘Absolutely Haunted’, highlights the project’s willingness to delve into experimental territories, once in a while. That’s a good thing: We Are Space Horses are not an unmovable entity. On the contrary, the American band finds its best livery when pushing the boundaries of their stylings and formula. It works, with ‘Apologia’ having the potential to appeal to a wide audience.

Obviously, the talented group is as sharp in their sonic prowess as they are in their songwriting expertise. Speaking about the inspiration behind the album’s lyricism, We Are Space Horses explain: “We consider personal topics such as life after addiction, loss, religion, and childhood trauma.”
