Imagine it’s 1993. You’re in the village of Mystic in Connecticut, in a basement practice room, with Dawn Estabrooks, Mat Tarbox, and Ellery Twining. You may not have known it at the time, but you were witnessing the birth of Delta of Venus. Now, fast forward thirty-one years, and with a vocalist named Issy having to replace Dawn on their new recording, the spirit of Delta of Venus burns brighter than ever.
‘Disengaged b/w Slipping’ is the first offering from the reformed band, and delivers a dreamy and utterly intoxicating blend of shoegaze and indie-pop. Issy’s vocals suit the immersive and ethereal soundscapes down to the tee, and for the better part of eight minutes, it’s as if Delta of Venus has never been away. Their sound is timeless and so inviting, drawing you in with layers of nostalgia and warmth.
Benefitting from Ellery’s refined songwriting process, the outfit’s new singles intentionally avoid the traditional format of verse/chorus/verse. In fact, there are no verses or choruses! I know…right?!
Undoubtedly the beginning of a fresh and exciting chapter in the band’s history, Delta of Venus has returned triumphantly, and we can’t wait to hear what they have next up their sonic sleeves.
