def.fo. Debuts with Euphoric and Sleazy Psych Indie Banger ‘Play It Cool’

‘Play It Cool’ is one of those tracks that feel legendary, almost euphoric. A stream of slick and fierce guitars, busy drum parts and an irresistible indie sleaziness are the record’s main strengths, complemented perfectly by lead singer and head honcho Tom Powell’s charming vocals, floating over such rich musical material with nostalgia and wittiness. Evoking the modulating flavours of psych acts such as Tame Impala and the rebellious spirit of more traditional Brit-rock outfits, ‘Play It Cool’ punches above its weight from the get-go, serving as a rather surprising debut for English group def.fo

Comprised of the father-son duo of Tom Powell and Steve Powell (an accomplished producer himself), def.fo. enter the music industry with clear ideas and proper tools, showcasing the pair’s expertise in crafting material that’s relatable, inspiring and highly catchy.

The song’s music video is the strongest evidence of that: described as a “captivating parody-homage to the iconic Tarantino/Tony Scott film ‘True Romance”, it communicates the same legendary urgency we were referring to at the beginning of this article.
