We have recently written quite fondly about DEEP DIVE SPECIES, eclectic American duo with a keen eye for avant-garde and post-rock stylings. Writing about their previous single, ‘Adventus’, we proudly declared: “Embarking on a lyric-less journey, they seek to embrace sonic storytelling and the many nuances in their researched and leftfield sound”. We stand by our words: ‘Salt and Water’ showcases exactly that.
DEEP DIVE SPECIES’ latest effort, the track is perhaps less dark and gloomy than ‘Adventus’, but certainly still packed with enigmatic tones and long guitar textures, channelling a certain new wave character in its identity. Moving at a slower pace, ‘Salt and Water’ is more accessible to the listener, perhaps offering the project a chance to expand its audience base.
Shipped with an enchanting, colourless video, ‘Salt and Water’ is once again evidence of Militsin and Popovich’s musical prowess. The record anticipates an upcoming album – stay tuned!
