Deep Cricket Night Share Latest EP ‘Mind Gets Flayed’

The keen reader will gladly remember Chicago-based outfit Deep Cricket Night. Writing about their album ‘Song of the Siren Saved’ last year, we proudly declared it “a modern, more fashionable look for a group that’s promising and visibly experienced in its musical prowess”. Now, the American group returns with a short EP, ‘Mind Gets Flayed’, a record that picks up exactly where they left off.

Drenched in retro energy, vintage new-wave flavourings and a distinct post-punk character, the EP showcases once again what Deep Cricket Night are made of. A solidly eclectic sound with raw, evocative vocals and fuzzy guitars, paired with melodic songwriting and occasional electronic elements.

‘Sudden Summer’ is the poppier effort on it, blinking an eye to art-pop and psychedelia. ‘Say Come Hither’ is rather playful, boasting groove and charisma. Guitar tones are much more expansive and spacious here, creating a dreamy contour that completely hypnotizes the listeners. The track is provided in a short and long (experimental) version – pick your fighter!
