Dearly Beloved is an up-and-coming emo, pop-punk band hailing from the great city of Orlando. Having recently signed with Havoc Underground, an independent American record label, the band have just unleashed their blinding debut EP in the form of ‘Nova Roads’. Six songs totalling less than twenty minutes take you on a sonic and lyrical rollercoaster of epic proportions, from the banging opener ‘The Ballad of Marcus & Maria’ to the more experimental and “clean” lead single ‘Stuck (Again)’. “We aimed to introduce emo and punk together with a twist,” says the band. And as far as I’m concerned, they’ve pulled it off expertly!
Working with producer Matt Goings at Killian Studios in Daytona Beach, Dearly Beloved states that bands like Green Day, My Chemical Romance, and Rise Against were all massive influences for them whilst recording ‘Nova Roads’. That being said, there’s undoubtedly enough originality and freshness that shines brightly throughout the whole album.
Having formed in 2019 during the COVID-19 pandemic, themes of isolation and despair are hugely present in the lyrical content. I used to say that some of the best music I’d ever heard was born out of the COVID-19 pandemic. ‘Nova Roads’ is just further confirmation of that!
