Reading Dave McKendry’s personal history was quite interesting. Hailing from Ireland, the young creative embarked on a trip to Europe on a bike, then got rid of said bike in favour of a guitar in Spain. Eventually, he would end up in Vienna, championing the art of busking and slowly maturing into an artist in his own right. Quite inspiring, as we are confident that not all steps of that journey were easy to undertake.
Having debuted in 2020, McKendry has now amassed an impressive following on streaming services. ‘Drugs’ is his latest effort, an anthemic, elegant single showcasing once again the nuanced artistry and inspired songwriting enjoyed by the Irish talent. Built on indie-folk stylings with a poppy character, the track is approachable and relatable, favouring the lyrical aspect over any instrumental prowess.
‘Drugs’ anticipates an upcoming three-track EP, expected later this year. If the single is anything to go by, we are in for a wonderful record – perhaps a sign that McKendry has completed his journey, and his evolution into a recording artist.
