Serving a generous slice of recession pop, American duo Darling Gails proudly unveil their latest effort, a punchy and luscious mainstream number with a certain nostalgic character to it. Evoking the glorious stylings of the early 2010s, ‘Triangle’ boasts a fierce, empowering electronic production that would make Gwen Stefani blush, together with modern, hyper-pop-flavoured vocals sounding otherworldly and hypnotising.
Perhaps that’s the pair’s genius flair: drawing from the past to then push their artistic boundaries into futuristic territories. Made up of producer and vocalist Bella Luxury and songwriter, rapper Jason Diaz, the project functions as a remote collaboration between Puerto Rico and Maryland – geography doesn’t stop them from crafting an eclectic stream of multi-genre singles, spanning hip-hop, electronica and pop, but ultimately existing in its own space-continuum.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Triangle’, the duo explains: “It focuses on an all too common dilemma of being in a committed monogamous relationship that your significant other is attempting to turn into an open situation. The topic is both relatable and taboo at the same time, as its subject is not one you commonly hear about in pop music”.
