‘These Thoughts’ is not just a song. It’s a tale of resilience and self-growth, the experience of a talented human who has endured hardships and obstacles along the way. Eventually, art always wins, and that’s what happened here too. Queen indie-pop wizard Danil is evidence of the importance of staying authentic to oneself, even in the face of adversity. ‘These Thoughts’ tries to deal with that very same issue.
A rather dark and complex piece, the track builds its own charismatic character on Depeche Mode-esque synth pop, quite ethereal and glitchy at times. Powered by retro drum machines and arpeggiated synthesisers, the record provides the perfect settings for Danil’s evocative and luscious vocals, wholesome and rather authoritative. Like a modern Dave Gahan, his tone is deep and near-perfect, immersing the listeners in musical honey.
Based in Germany, Danil is on an artistic mission, something he’s well toward accomplishing. Speaking about the record, he explains: “My songs reflect my personal experiences, including mental health, empowerment and spirituality.”
