D & the Compass Remixes ‘Here/There’ by ARVAN

Often, musical magic can be found in unexpected places. Take for instance Malaysian independent label Mü-nest: in their daily quest for discovering the next great release, they stumble across a visionary idea: what if they were to remix some of ARVAN’s music? The group is certainly worthy of that, having gained the 2020 Malaysia AIM Chinese Music Awards, and performed at renowned festivals such as Taiwan’s Hohaiyan Rock Festival, Malaysia’s Urbanscapes and City ROARS! Festival. Naturally, Mü-nest didn’t waste any time, inviting a number of artists from their roster to take part in the remix/rework effort.

Celebrating the launch of the series, we find Kuala Lumpur’s psychedelic electronic music wizard D & the Compass, who shares his personal interpretation of ARVAN’s ‘Here/There’, taken from their first album ‘We Don’t All Have To Sleep’.

The way the track finds a new creative home is quite enticing. D & the Compass manages to build a nuanced and fresh sonic outlook, delving into soothing and gentle territories. Blending slow-paced electronic beats with more organic instrumentation, such as an electric piano and a harp, the remix is a true gift for our ears, a precious jewel we urge you to discover.
