Cynthia Hamar Unveils Music Video for Introspective Gem ‘Where Your Love Lives’

In a technological world, music can sometimes takes us back to more organic settings, offering a much-needed refuge from a fast-paced, attention-seeking environment. Canadian songstress Cynthia Hamar knows it very well, championing a sooting and delicate brand of folk. Using simple, bucolic arrangements and her intimate vocals, she’s able to take listeners into a wonderful alternative universe, a place where time stand still and solace is available to everyone.

Based in Edmonton, Hamar had a productive year, releasing a couple of singles leading up to her latest album, ‘Joint & Marrow’, released via Neon Moon Records. The record seals a decade-long career, highlighting Cynthia as one of Canada’s best-kept folk secrets. Armed with her trusty guitars, Hamar delivers relatable and wise storytelling, taking cues from personal experiences and the many idiosyncrasies in our reality.

Taken from the album, ‘Where Your Love Lives’ is perhaps its most dark and introspective episode, echoing nostalgia and the continuous flow of time. Saloon-like influences are drawn into the mix, with a mellow piano taking centre stage. Describing the track as ‘inspired by Nick Cave’, the song is certainly a stand-out offering.

Delving deep into the lyrical theme, the Canadian talent explains: “I recently had a bit of a breakdown when my niece sent me some old photos of my kids (they are 22, 21 and 20 now) and I instantly had this yearning for a home that was long ago. I still have a home, it just looks different now and empty nesting is pretty sweet. Empty nesting is a bit of a rediscovering of home as well. So….I made it into a love song for my husband”.
