A unique, cloudy, quirky offering, ‘TYPE CAST’ has been an awesome discovery. In it, the keen listener will enjoy the researched sound design facilitated by Courier’s nuanced artistry. Built on hip-hop and electronic stylings, the album is pretty eclectic and futuristic in its overall approach. Opener ‘BO(XX)’ sees Courier’s thick and fast flow on top of a hard-hitting, dark electro beat.
Follow-up ‘Work (I’m Gitnit)’ focuses on more authentic hip-hop stylings, empowering a minimal, solid bouncy beat with tons of sub-bass matter. It’s here that we can really appreciate Courier’s malleable vocal tone, incredibly charming and charismatic. Further on, episodes such as ‘What You’d Think’ reveal a deep R&B influence, constantly balanced between icy spoken words and poignant melodies.
The many interludes on ‘TYPE CAST’ also reveal a decisively experimental flair, casting Courier as a boundary-breaking artist – unlike many others today. An album that deserves your attention, and that won’t disappoint.
