We did warn readers that they were gonna hear about Consequential again. We featured him just a few days ago, celebrating ‘Down’ as “a hard-hitting, striking piece”. We stand by our words: the British producer’s artistic output is often very imaginative and creative, steadily building a ‘vibe’ and wrapping the listeners into a fictional, yet meaningful and hypnotising sonic universe.
That all remains true for Consequential’s latest effort, ‘Not The Type’: drenched in poignancy and evocative energy, the track finds a worthy refuge in buoyant jungle grooves, contrasting an intense club-oriented beat with mellower tones. Female vocal samples hint at crepuscular, liminal atmospheres, perhaps influenced by the likes and Burial and Four Tet, among others.
As an added bonus, soundscapes and field recordings of nature and birds add a glimmering shizzle to the piece, truly elevating the listener experience to ethereal levels. Speaking about the production process, Consequential jokingly explains: “It’s been made in the box, usually with my laptop and a sofa. I got a new mouse recently, guess I do use some hardware”.
