Conchis Shares Meaningful Album ‘Chapters’

We found ourselves writing about Conchis not long ago, celebrating her single ‘Trouble’ as “a cathartic slice of alternative pop”. It truly was a cathartic listening experience, especially paired with the Finnish songstress’ vivid, gloomy storytelling. Now, Conchis returns with a more expansive body of work, ‘Chapters’. An 11-track album, the record dives into pure melancholia and introspection, guided by personal experience and intimate reckoning.

Produced by Jonas Verwijnen, ‘Chapters’ takes the listeners on a meaningful journey through loss, yearning, consumption and desperation, looking at the human psyche with a keen, inquisitive eye. The sonic character of the album greatly complements such songwriting force, allowing for soul-crushing textures, leftfield tones and a dark electronic flair.

What’s more, while making the record, Conchis suffered from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), an obstacle that pushed the Finnish talent to adapt, for example by allowing herself only five vocal takes per track. It’s such authenticity that makes ‘Chapters’ the meaningful offering it is. ‘Floods’ takes particular importance within the tracklist, carrying the lead single torch.
