Introduced by dreamy percussions and hazy tones, ‘Trouble’ is as good as they come. A cathartic slice of alternative pop, the record is also rather dark, creating an energy field that’s intense and melancholic. Once the chorus hits, such energy is dissipated into an explosion of textures and vocal harmonies, making ‘Trouble’ an absolute pleasure to listen to.
Behind such artistic prowess, we find Finnish creative Conchis. Following up on her debut single ‘Cray Cray’, she’s slowly unveiling more of her musical universe. One constant is the sonic ‘chiaroscuro’ – the frequent contrasts between angelic tones and gritty synths. In this sense, ‘Trouble’ is perhaps less hard-hitting than its predecessor, yet still carries the same vibrancy and poignancy.
Everything is geared towards Conchis’ upcoming album, ‘Chapters’. Speaking about the inspiration behind the single, the Finnish talent explains: “In the past, I’ve had a tendency to pick men who aren’t necessarily healthy for me. ‘Trouble’ is a reflection of that topic and how I’m still drawn to certain types of men despite knowing better. It’s about the push and pull in a relationship and how we act against our better judgment”.
