The keen reader will gladly remember Cold Equations, Nashville-based outfit with a knack for meaningful, indie-powered guitar vibes. Echoing the likes of Death Cab for Cutie, Weezer and Smashing Pumpkins, the group remains a relatively friendly musical offering, favouring emotional melodies and shoegaze-y atmosphere to more complex distortion and fast-paced bangers. We are into it! Having featured their latest singles, we are now enthusiastic to share with you Cold Equations’ new album, self-titled.
Along gems we already knew – the likes of ‘Identity Crisis’ and ‘Eraser’, the record delivers tons of new material, such as ‘State of Mind’, a track that reminds us of the best Billy Corgan, sharing a certain amount of sleazyness and casual gloom. It works: hitting us with a glorious and memorable chorus, the song is a true alt-rock anthem.
Speaking about the record, frontman Drew Kohl explains: “We decided to self-title the album because it embodies the sound and style we developed together. The collaborative process of creating this record defined us as a band. We’ve grown together as a trio, pouring ourselves into these songs and arrangements.” A worthwhile listen – give it a chance.
