Cold Equations Return with Emotional Gem ‘Eraser’

The keen reader might recall Cold Equations, Nashville-based outfit we featured recently. Enthusiastic about their high-end, nuanced sound, we proudly declared: ‘Identity Crisis’ slowly develops into an irresistible indie-rock gooey – some of the best we have heard to date.” Now, the American rockers return with their latest effort – we couldn’t be happier. ‘Eraser’ shows us a slightly different side of Cold Equations. Let us put that in terms the reader will understand. If ‘Identity Crisis’ was more aking to Fountains of Wayne, ‘Eraser’ reminds us of an early Death Cab for Cutie, with their emotional guitar matter and poignant lyricism.

If there’s one thing clear, is that Cold Equations look at the past with admiration and eagerness, soaking up the best they can find in the early ‘2000 indie scene. But, in doing so, they also manage to decline those influences with a rather modern outlook, successfully revitalising a sound we thoughts was long lost. Props to them!

Lyrically, the track explores the idea of fading away in the eyes of a lover, something we can all mirror ourselves in. Lost love and the pain that comes from it. It is clear why ‘Eraser’ feels so poignant: for all the grieving souls, it’s their honeypot.
