Returning with their first music video ever, Close Drive have been steadily working on their sonic formula with religious precision, sculpting a sound that feels light and uplifting, while retaining all the nuances and quirks making the listening experience meaningful. ‘Bed Head’ is their latest effort, a stunning and summery indie anthem with a strong chill energy in it.
Built over a friendly guitar riff, thick vocal harmonies and simple drums, the record seems to be placing itself at the intersection of indie, lo-fi and new wave, although one could argue that Brandon Higgins’ lead vocals contain a huge pop charge, really making the track universal. Emerging from Philadelphia, Close Drive have been at it for a few years now, and like fine wine, their songs get better release after release.
Speaking about ‘Bed Head’, the group explains: “This song feels like a late night drive on the highway in an attempt to clear your head. Alternatively, it feels like an overcast/ rainy day with no telling of when the sun will come out. the feeling of stumbling over your words and being stuck in your own head is sung about over an upbeat track.”
Will this be the year for them? Good chance it could be. Recommended!
