‘Old Days’ is the brand new (as in released yesterday) EP from Close Drive, a four-piece act from Philadelphia that has an uncanny knack for striking the perfect chord with every tune they touch. Featuring six original songs that, as the band put it, “explore the highs and lows of life”, it’s an EP that undoubtedly has a little something for everyone to love about it! Rocky, folky, poppy, and ridiculously infectious, each track has a life and soul of its own.
‘Yesterday’ gets the record underway, and it’s the perfect setup for what’s to come. An upbeat and anthemic gem is expertly juxtaposed against the vocalist’s inability to accept the truth, revealing the act’s mastery of songwriting and storytelling. The title track then follows and takes things down a notch. It showcases the folkier, more Bon Iver-esque sound of Close Drive, and provides proof of the band’s limitless sonic versatility.
‘Bed Head’ then comes along and chucks up straight back into a vibey and energetic space. A driving bass line and deeply catchy guitar riffs meet the airy vocals of Brandon Higgins, culminating in a tune that essentially captures and bottles up the feeling of euphoria.
With three more songs to explore, I’m jealous that you get to experience them for the first time. What a band! What an EP!
