Clare Easdown Learns to Let Go on ‘Burned Into My Past’

Jeremy Bregman

‘Burned Into My Past’ is a beautiful and cinematic new tune from Sydney-based vocalist Clare Easdown. Working alongside Simon Pipe, who is based in Barbados, the pair have crafted one of the most ethereal and delicate tracks that I’ve heard so far this year. Subtle and shy keys float over Easdown’s majestic vocals, as relaxing synths pop in and out for good measure. I hate saying that a song is instrumentally simple. It sounds like a dig when in truth it’s anything but. The simplicity of the instrumentals of ‘Burned Into My Past’ is an absolute treat, and they allow for Easdown’s vocals to take front and centre.

Lyrically, the tune focuses on the loss of a loved one. A loved one that you’ve had to let go of, knowing in your heart of hearts that it is the right move. “‘Burned Into My Past’ is a build-up and release of loss and of course love,” says Clare. It’s also, vitally, about the importance of letting go.

I’ve fallen in love with this deeply irresistible song. It takes me to a place of frozen lakes and icy waterfalls and induces a sense of calm and quietness that I’ll forever be grateful for. Thank you, Clare and Simon! We absolutely love it!
