City Ice Debut with Infectiously Upbeat Single ‘Recovery Anthem’

After surviving living on the streets, Brooklyn-based artist Matt Devin Patrick picked up a guitar and wrote ‘Recovery Anthem’. He then enlisted the help of two childhood friends, Tom Kolik and Andrew Oakley, and before long, City Ice was born. ‘Recovery Anthem’ is the band’s debut single, and in the words of Matt, it’s a “call to arms to anyone out there who feels like they want a better life for themselves, but doesn’t know where to start”.

Finding a genre to stick ‘Recovery Anthem’ in is a toughie, but I’d say it leans into alternative and 90s rock territories. Infectiously upbeat and full of life, it’s an energetic little number filled with zest and colour. There’s something profoundly unique and distinctive about Matt’s vocals too – as if they’ve been crafted from the very essence of resilience, hope, and perseverance.

Working alongside Grammy-winning engineer Ryoji Hata (Masa Takumi,) City Ice bring forth a simple yet evocative message that resonates deeply beneath its surface. “Just put one foot in front of the other”. It sounds so simple, doesn’t it?

‘Recovery Anthem’ is a cracking song, a stellar debut, and hopefully the start of something very special.
