We have been proudly supporting American Folk duo Chucky Trading Co this past year. After debuting in December 2021, the pair showcased unmatched productivity, releasing beautiful heartfelt gems regularly, many of which have now found a place in their listeners’ hearts. The latest effort in the group’s short yet punchy career takes the shape of a mellow rock anthem, ‘Your Freedom’. Upping the stakes, songwriter CS Taber and producer Everett Young move their sound into a grittier direction, expertly alternating distorted guitars to clean, more melodious segments.
In the past, we wrote about them: “the American talents have been slowly building a reputation for folk gems and inspired songwriting, constantly augmenting their audience base and streaming count”. Well, that reputation has been further advanced! ‘Your Freedom’ is a joy to listen to. Sharing a certain haunting and sleazy vibe, we are confident the record will find a place in the folk-rock scene, especially thanks to its charming lyricism and glorious attitude. Described by Chucky Trading Co as “it’s as if Jimi Hendrix sat in on a Byrds session”, it is interesting to observe the constant push and pull between ’70s-infused pop songwriting and a heavier instrumental, resulting in a mesmerising dualism.
With ‘Your Freedom’, the New York duo take a front-row seat on the folk scene, appointing themselves as genre authorities.
