Chris St John’s New Album ‘When Dreams End’ is Exceptional

Jeremy Bregman

“This album started as a single, turned into an EP, and then became an LP,” says Chris St John, a New York-based acoustic singer/songwriter who has stolen the hearts of all of us here. The introspective and diverse album showcases just how good a songwriter St John actually is, with every tune offering us a glimpse into the feelings, pains, joys, and life of the musician. From ‘Oh Papa’, a hauntingly moving track that will be universally understood by anyone who has lost a father, to ‘Bitter Tears’, a song inspired by the words of St John’s grandmother.

Everything in between is truly just as good as the abovementioned tunes, but I wouldn’t want to give too much away before you’ve simply listened to and enjoyed them yourselves!

Recorded at Darkhorse and Sound Emporium studios in Nashville, and produced by renowned artist and producer Stephen Wrench, St John admits that his overall process is rather unique. “I don’t follow any rules or formulas,” he says. “I just express myself.” I think it’s this experimental approach that has allowed Chris to produce one of the most intriguing, diverse, and well-rounded albums of the year. We’re in love!
