Emerging from Scotland, Cheap Escape are the UK’s latest punch of energy, delivering fuzzy and euphoric tones with elegance and control. They are not a hard-rock band per se’, exploring a decisively mellower outlook, perhaps more aking to modern alt-rock and pop-rock stylings. We are on board: ‘Come Clean’ – the group’s latest effort – feels catchy and relatable, almost playful, boasting a certain international flair too.
Echoing the likes of Jet and The Fratellis, among others, Cheap Escape also draws from the best American tradition, penning a track that feels fierce and over-the-top, while drenched in a presentable and universal rock livery. Formed in Kirkcaldy earlier this year, the band includes Scott (vocals, bass), Craig (guitar), and Cammy (drums), all creative beings with a solid history in their local scene.
Delving into the lyricism behind ‘Come Clean’, Cheap Escape explain: “It deals with the all too familiar feeling of betrayal. With countless hours wasted building a friendship that would never last, the protagonist wonders how they didn’t see the signs from the start.”
