Introduced by a frantic, punchy wall of alt-rock goodness, ‘FALLING’ is a mightily powerful offering. The latest record by American outfit Chasing Stars, the single finds its strength in an overall eclectic formula. One that yes, favours gritty guitar distortions and monumental drums, yet it also incorporates glitchy electronica and touches of dubstep-flavoured synth work. It all serves to highlight ‘FALLING’ as a wonderfully personal and unique release.
A 30-year-old would define such a recipe as the lucky encounters of Bring Me The Horizon and Skrillex. Realistically, Chasing Star’s references are way more specialized, with the likes of Bad Omens, Dayseeker and I Prevail bulking up the band’s intriguing inspiration. Whichever way you look at it, there’s no denying that the American project has taken on a rather futuristic, forward-thinking view on alternative rock, something that – we suspect – will go a long way into spreading their names to audiences worldwide.
‘FALLING’ is rather gloomy and dark in its ethos and sonic character. Such energy is fully mirrored in its lyrical counterpart, described by Chasing Stars as “someone dealing with the pressure of life and seeing no way out of it, living life in a perpetual loop that never seems to end – and even when trying to get out, it pulls you back it.”
