There’s a strong soothing quality in Charlotte Morris’ latest single, ‘Tennessee’. Her vocals are so evocative and poignant, instantly capturing the listeners’ attention and guiding them through a candied personal artistic universe, a place where one can find solace and comfort. Anticipating a larger album – ‘Wild Child’ – expected later this year, the record also signals a passionate admiration towards Nashville, the city that adopted Morris and that is now providing her with artistic inspiration and tools to grow.
Built over mellow acoustic guitars and cinematic strings, the track is a true acoustic jewel, showcasing the highly-rated musicianship enjoyed by Morris. Driven to music from a young age, she was able to develop a multi-instrumentalist attitude, being proficient in piano, guitar, banjo and violin, among other instruments. It is this compositional wisdom that greatly enriched her artistry, so nuanced and refined, never tiring. Ultimately though, it’s Charlotte’s vocals that create the magic, helping her stand out in an overcrowded industry.
Describing the inspiration behind her lyricism in ‘Tennessee’, Morris explains: “I wrote it shortly after I moved to Nashville and I think it aptly captures the love I have for this city, as well as nostalgia for the past, and longing for something more. It’s a melancholic love song to Nashville, Tennessee, and the southern men I’ve met along the way.”
