Charlie Steady Shows His Versatility with ‘Songstress’ and ‘A Song and Dance Man’

Jeremy Bregman

Fresno-based singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Charlie Steady recently dropped the 5th side A/B single that will support his second full-length album entitled ‘Magpie’. Kicking things off with ‘Songstress’, the former bassist and backing vocalist wastes no time in getting the funky, groovy vibe up and running. A soulful, R&B-infused, indie-pop tune, ‘Songstress’ just puts you in the right mood immediately. It’s intoxicating and deeply hypnotic. And Steady’s vocals…Well just listen for yourself!

‘A Song and Dance Man’ follows ‘Songstress’, and showcases the versatility of Steady’s songwriting abilities. It definitely takes a less-is-more approach when compared to ‘Songstress’ but, at the same time, features beautifully eclectic and fresh-sounding instrumentation. Both tracks tell the adventures of the album’s main character (Magpie), as they journey to become a musical star in the Big City.

I have to say…I’ve had both of these tracks on repeat since I first heard them. Listening to Charlie is an experience in and of itself. The vocals, the imagery, the production, I just can’t get enough! ‘Magpie’ is scheduled to be released sometime early next year, and we simply cannot wait to hear it. There’s an originality to Charlie Steady’s sound that I haven’t come across in ages!
