If you are into glitchy and granular Hip Hop, you’ll greatly connect with Charlee Beatz’s artistic output. You see, the Cleveland-based talent champions a highly eclectic and wholesome sonic profile, infusing his track with sassiness and keeping it on the minimal side. This makes it easy for the listeners to appreciate his latest EP, ‘2 E’s 1 Z’, a series of instrumental pieces that draw from tradition as much as they look to the future.
All clocking in at a relatively short length, two/three minutes max, the tracks explore diverse territories, such as the trap and boom-bap vibes in ‘33’, or the almost experimental ‘Dumb’, built on icy and bouncy grooves and vocal samples. Vinyl scratches provide a wonderful touch of nostalgia.
‘Shock Drop’ and ‘Goated’ both delve into dark and obscure drill matter, rightly so. ‘Sum New’ it’s perhaps the freshest track on the album, quite experimental and fragrant. Speaking about the record, Charlee Beatz explains: “A combination of 9 tracks that were created between 2013 and 2023. The album was originally meant to be released in 2020 but was delayed and altered between 2020 and 2023. It’s meant to make people feel motivated, happy, and to stay moving.”
