The floodgates of the Christmas season are open, and with them also the joyful stream of festive music hitting our emails. British rocker Chandra is one of the first creatives to unveil a new seasonal record, sharing a heartwarming tale of acceptance and forgiveness. ‘Christmas Hugs’ does exactly what it says on the tin: a poignant, evocative musical embrace that helps listeners enter December with the right joyful spirit.
From a sonic standpoint, ‘Christmas Hugs’ covers the basis of a worthy festive single: tons of jingle bells and friendly harmonic content, guided by Chandra’s sapient and relatable vocals. It’s honestly a great track, very traditional yet not overly cheesy or obvious – it still retains the Bristol-based talent’s fierce character and guitar-driven aesthetic. The perfect blend of rock and Christmas ethos.
Speaking about the inspiration for the song, Chandra explains: “My favourite thing about Christmas is the swell of joy and goodwill that spreads like a virus as soon as Halloween ends and runs all the way through to New Year’s Eve. It’s as if people give themselves permission to be more friendly, more charitable and more forgiving than they ever would be at any other time of year.”
