The keen reader might remember sonic explorer Cedric D. from an article we published about the project’s previous single, ‘Sound Language’, described by us as “bringing danceability on experimental EDM”. Now, the San Jose resident returns with a much bigger record, the album ‘Elevate’, drawing from the same leftfield and electronic creative wells as some of his previous anthems.
There’s a strong eclecticism in the record, a sign that Cedric D doesn’t let himself be restricted inside a box or a determined style. Instead, he likes to keep his artistry wandering freely, going from chill-out, soothing episodes – such as the album’s opener ‘Keep Going’ – to more punchy and furious tunes – as the title track ‘Elevate’ can attest.
Elsewhere, the listeners will be covered in highly experimental, slow-paced synthetic goo, as seen in ‘With You’, which even contains an out-of-context flute part. The record then turns his attention to groovy, disco and funk stylings, delivering a track that feels fresh, sleazy and summery. That’s ‘Funkation’. We will not spoiler any more tracks, but we urge you to listen to the album in full. Trust us on that.
