German sonic wizard Carsten Schnell pays homage to the early Chicago blues era with his latest release, ‘I Have Been Waiting’. Demonstrating a strong eclecticism and artistry that seemingly has no boundaries, Schnell delivers an authentic slice of Blues nostalgia, perhaps capturing listeners outside his usual audience. Many of you out there might know Schnell as a classically trained composer; back in the 90s he was known for his electronic-powered compositions, making him one of the early innovators in the field.
Over the years, Carsten sought inspiration elsewhere, finding it in a wholesome and genre-free approach to art. ‘I Have Been Waiting’ signals a total departure from his early record, and perhaps his willingness to return to man-made matters. From the first chord, Schnell’s soulful vocals draw listeners in, carrying the weight of longing and anticipation. His mastery of the guitar shines through with precise guitar picking and soul-stirring solos, paying homage to blues legends while adding his own fresh twist.
