An elegant and soothing offering, ‘Ne Plus Ultra’ introduces itself with the lightest and most blissful electric piano, soon joined by a wide-toned guitar which completes the track’s sonic backbone. Developing over orchestral textures and a strong cinematic allure, ‘Ne Plus Ultra’ then sees Carpe Diem’s charming female lead vocals entering the picture.
Ada is the talented singer behind them, part of the Hong Kon-based duo that’s clearly excellent at songwriting. Keith is on guitars duty shifting from acoustic to electric, even going as far as playing a short yet punchy solo (with a rather 80s’flavoured tone, we must say). Eventually, ‘Ne Plus Ultra’ blooms into a stunning ballad, one of those records that completely overwhelm the listeners – mainly thanks to its kindness and warm lyricism.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the song, Carpe Diem explain: “‘Ne plus Ultra’ means perfect point in Latin. However, life is never perfect. We always struggle with this throughout our life. By embracing the beauty of imperfection, we might find the real meaning in life. All life is an experimental journey.”
