The keen reader will gladly remember Caroline Romano, American rising songstress with a knack for evocative, vibrant songs and impressive vocals. Writing about past single ‘Born To Want More’ a few weeks ago, we proudly declared it a “poised and emotional piece packed with melancholia and self-reflection”. We were also big fans of the shoegaze-esque, indie-rock livery. Now, Romano returns with a mellower, soothing offering, ‘IDK These Days’.
Built on a minimal, acoustic arrangement, the record fully showcases Caroline’s elegant and luscious vocals, together with her relatable, nuanced songwriting prowess. The way she’s able to infuse her lyrical delivery with tender tangible emotions is frankly quite notable. An introspective effort, ‘IDK These Days’ is bound to evoke a reaction in the listener – and we welcome that, it’s a sign that Romano is a true artist. She’s not posing, or offering token records. She’s expressing herself by doing what she does best.
Delving into the inspiration behind the single, she explains: “The song speaks to the fear that these emotions might linger longer than desired. It’s about the struggle of being honest when asked how you’re doing and admitting, ‘I don’t know these days.’ While these feelings are fleeting, at the moment, they feel all-consuming. This song is my way of confronting those emotions head-on, admitting them aloud, and finding solace in that admission”.
