Carnival Mind Champions Pure Acoustic Songwriting in New Gem ‘5am’

There’s something unique about Carnival Mind. A somewhat cryptic and puzzling project, about them we know that they are active in Sydney, Australia, and that they believe in the raw, unfiltered potential of a song. In fact, they refuse any kind of convoluted arrangement, instead relying on a smooth acoustic guitar and their trustworthy charming vocals. They even have a statement about it: “There is no production to hide behind – If you’re enjoying Carnival Mind then it’s purely because the song resonated with you on a deeper, personal level”.

We’ll be honest, it is a refreshing take on popular music. In an over-complexed industry, where skilled production can mask anything, it is sometimes good to come back to the simple things. It gives you a totally different perspective. Pure storytelling and melodies, as if it was a different era. Perhaps that’s exactly Carnival Mind’s best quality: to take us back to what really matters, leaving ornaments behind.

‘5am’ is the Aussie talents’ latest effort. Sharing a certain Country-Blues character, the song is a mesmerising gem that will take the listeners on a journey into a fictional town, recalling the willingness to start anew and break free. Sort of a nostalgic song, we particularly love the occasional guitar solos, very melodious and really uplifting the track.

Well done, Carnival Mind. We look forward to observing the project bloom even further.
